Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) humanitarian efforts does not leave anyone behind and inclusiveness is a common practice at our organisation.

Rohingya refugees that is being considered as the β€˜most prosecuted minority’ in the world also has always been included in MRA’s humanitarian effort.

MRA has been assisting Rohingya refugees community in Malaysia since 2009 and our primary focus is education.

In 2009, an alternative learning centre (ALC) Rohingya Community School (RCS) was established in Kampung Cheras Baru.

Aim of the ALC is to provide opportunity of receiving formal primary education for school-going Rohingya children. RCS is registered as one of ALC under UNHCR Education Department.

It started as an evening Quranic class for the Rohingya children. Increase in number of students and insistence from their parents for a full-fledged ALC has prompted then MRA’s President Dato’ Abdul Razak bin KechikΒ  to expand it into an ALC teaching conventional subjects (BM, Eng, Math, Science, Art) in the morning and Quranic class in the evening.

It has been 12 years and MRA is able to sustain RCS thanks to yearly donations from Al-Khalifah Foundation, corporates and few consistent donor who sympathizes with Rohingya and their plight.

In 2019, RCS has branched out to Sungai Petani, Kedah and given the name RCS Kedah. With its opening, we are able to cater the educational needs of Rohingya children in 2 states.

Currently, our total number of students is 167 students.

Throughout 12 years of RCS establishment, there has been a significant number of our students who have successfully resettled to other countries.

Their ability to converse and write in English resulted from being a RCS students has definitely contributed to their success of resettlement.

In 2017, 10 of students were successfully resettled in United States of America. Since 2019, teenage students that has potential to succeed are sponsored to continue their education until secondary level at other ALC offering secondary education.

Currently, we are sponsoring 15 students and they are in various programs ranging from academic to skill programs.

Our hope for RCS is to expand our services to Rohingya communities in other states. We aspire to create educational opportunity to other Rohingya students and cater to their educational needs. Lastly, refugee or not they are children bursting with potential and in need of knowledge and guidance. If given the chance paired with proper guidance from those who believe in them, sky is the limit for these Rohingya children.
