NORTHPORT (Malaysia) Bhd raised RM14,692 for the flood victims which will be donated through the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA).
MRA is a non-profit humanitarian organisation with the primary objective of assisting those affected by natural disasters or armed conflicts, both locally and abroad.
Northport CEO Datuk Azman Shah Mohd Yusof (picture) said the donation campaign was initiated to give its employees a chance to contribute and help the affected flood victims.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has already affected many livelihoods, but the floods have further impacted people’s lives. We hope our donation will help ease the burden of the flood victims, whose livelihood has been put on hold due to the damaging effects of the disaster,” he said.
MRA president Datuk Dr Mohd Daud Sulaiman said the organisation is targeting a total contribution of RM500,000 to be donated to the flood victims throughout Malaysia via its ten branches nationwide.
The Flood Emergency Relief Fund 2021 will assist victims especially in severely affected states such as Pahang, Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu.
“Assistance to be provided includes basic food packs, medical supplies, baby milk, blankets and towels, as well as volunteer management for post-flood cleaning. We hope Northport will continue to become MRA’s strategic partner for our future humanitarian missions,” he said.
Northport has been involved in humanitarian efforts in the past, where it distributed essential needs to the flood victims in Kelantan and Pahang, which were severely hit by the worst flood in history in 2015.
Azman Shah said the group also organised a similar donation campaign to support the frontliners, where donations raised were used to purchase personal protective equipment and food items to be distributed to hospitals, health clinics and police stations around Klang, Selangor.
“This donation is a reflection of our caring, sensitive, generous and kind-hearted employees to help our fellow Malaysians affected by the natural disaster. Northport will continue to stand in solidarity with those in dire need of help and support during this difficult time,” he said.
